Narodil sa 6.9.1953 v Námestove. Ako samouk fotografuje od r.1975, od r.1987 pracuje ako profesionálny fotograf. V oblasti dokumentárnej tvorby sa dlhodobo venuje práci na cykle o ľuďoch z oravských kopaníc, nazvaný „Ľudský príbeh“. Od r.1993 pracuje na fotografiách „Deň dlhší ako ľudský vek“ o ľuďoch v domovoch dôchodcov. Individuálne vystavoval na Slovensku, v Česku, Poľsku, Holandsku. Žije a pracuje v Námestove na Orave.

Born on September 6, 1953 in Námestovo. Self-taught, he has been taking photographs since 1975, though it wasn’t until 1987 that he started to dedicate himself fully to photography. HIS documentary work is focused on series about the people from hillsides of Orava, entitled “A People’s Tale”. In 1993 he has started work on the series “A Day Longer than a Lifetime” about people from the hillsides at old people’s homes. He exhibited in several individual exhibitions in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Holland. He lives and works in Námestovo, Orava.

Awards and individual exhibitions
May work has won many awards and commendations in competitions at home and abroad: 1992 -1st prize in Slovak Foto ’92, “story” category, 1st prize in Pravda newspaper’s competition Life around us, the Award of the Slovak Union of Photographers, 1993 - the honest acknowledgement from “Salon internacional de arte fotografico” in Buenos Aires, 1995 -1st prize in the international AMFO competition, Every year I have been in average 5 individual exhibitions in Slovakia and in an abroad. About my phtographic creation was filmed 3 documentary films by private television. The documentary film about myself was rated as the best documentary film on The international review of the documentary film - Art film Trencianske Teplice in Slovakia in the 1997.

Ľudský príbeh " V človeku je úžasná sila, ktorá ma priťahuje. Osudy ľudí, ktorí ma na Oravských lazoch zaujali, neboli ľahké. Pochopil som, že sa s nimi musím zžiť, byť s nimi ako ich vlastný tieň, ktorý ich sprevádza po ošúchaných stenách dreveníc. Vžiť sa do ich ťažkého každodenného života Neraz mi vyčítali, že fotografujem biedu a chudobu. Vo svojich fotografiách chcem zachytiť človeka tak, ako ho vidím ja. Som jeden z nich. Nechcem sa vysmievať, že sú zanedbaní a ufúľaní. To patrí k ich životu. Chudobný je ten, kto v nich vidí len chudobu . V Oravskej Lesnej na starom cintoríne ma na jednom kríži upútal nápis:
Čo ste vy, boli sme aj my.
Čo sme my, budete aj vy.
Sme akoby sme nikdy neboli bývali."

A people’s tale "Man is endowed with great strength that fascinates me. Fortunes of people from the Orava hillsides who caught my attention, were not simple ones. I understood that I would have to blend with their environment, stick to them as their own shade following them on the rubbed walls of the wooden cabins, imagine myself living their hard ordinary lives. I have been often reprimanded for photographing misery and poverty. I want my photographs to show the people the way I see them. I am one of them. I do not wish to laugh at them because they are unkempt and befouled. That is a part of their lives. Poor are those who can see only poverty in them. I have found the following inscription on a cross at the cemetery in Oravská Lesná:
What you are, we also used to be.
What we are, you also shall become.
We are as if we have never been.”

Cesty alkoholu Keď Jaro objavil Oravu, stretol tam zvláštnu ženu, navzdory jej vysokému veku /viac ako 90 rokov/ vyžarovala z nej neobyčajná životná sila. Dlhý čas žila v zahraničí, kde prežila život odlišný od iných ľudí. Jaro Sýkora fotil túto modelku nahú, chtiac vyjadriť symbol života, smrti, mladosti, staroby.

When I explored the region Orava I met with a special woman, despite her high age /more then 90 years/ radiated from her anenourmous life-power. Long time she lived in an abroad, whose her life different from the others people. I photographed her as a nude and I wanted to express a symbol of the life, of the death, of the youth, of the old age. This photographic cycle has title Ways of alcohol
